japan airline

LCC in Japan

I had a flight from Osaka to Tokyo by Jetstar Japan.

I always use Japan airlines but this time, I tried to use Low Cost Carrier, Jetstar Japan.
Because the fare is quite different!
This company is the same group of Jetstar, Australia.

The seat is narrow but not uncomfortable for me because this is only 1 hours flight Osaka/Tokyo.
I can stand.

But Jetstar Japan doesn’t have a flight to/from Haneda,Tokyo.
They have only Narita.
This is a problem because from Narita to central Tokyo takes around 2hours by train or bus…
Also, Osaka is not Itami(central Osaka). Kansai International Airport.

You will save your ‘money or time?’

Japanese custom eat Ehomaki in Sestubun

3rd of Feb. is “Setsubun” in Japan.
If you missed my blog about Stsubun, please click here!

In setsubun, we eat “Ehomaki”.
ehomaki
Ehomaki is a long sushi roll which you eat all in one go on the night of Setsubun,
while facing silently toward the year’s “lucky” direction with your eyes closed,
wishing for perfect health and praying for prosperity of business.

You make ehomaki with seven ingredients, cucumber, shiitake mushrooms, seasoned omelet, teriyaki eel,
sweet fish flakes and kanpyo are rolled in seaweed representing the seven gods of happiness.
By doing so, people hope to bring happiness into their lives.

Actually, ehomaki had long been eaten in the Kansai area but the reason why it spread throughout Japan was, surprisingly, due to a sales-promotion by convenience stores in the early ’90s!
Also, research shows that 60 percent of people in the Kanto area still don’t eat ehomaki.

The Last Day of Winter “SETSUBUN”

The Last Day of Winter, called “Setsubun”.
In 2015, 3rd of Feb. is Setsubun.

Setsubun literally means “division of seasons.”
It is used to mark the end of winter and summer, and is derived from the old lunar calendar.
However, “setsubun” has now come to mean the day before the first day of spring only.
It usually occurs around February 3rd. On this day, in a custom called mame-maki,
people throw and scatter roasted soy beans inside and outside their houses while saying,
“Get goblins out of the house! Invite happiness into the home!”
In Japanese “Oni ha soto! , Fuku wa uchi!”

Mt.Fuji a world cultual heritage

What comes to people’s minds is probably Mt. Fuji which has a height of 3,776 meters
and is listed as a World Cultural Heritage site, will come to mind first.
Mt.Fuji

More than 300,000 people a year climb Mt. Fuji, with half of them climbing along the Yoshida Route.
The number of climbers is counted by infrared lights on the eighth level of four climbing routes
Yoshida, Subashiri, Gotenba and Fujinomiya.
In comparison, the lowest mountain in Japan used to be Mount Tenpo, at only 4.53 meters above sea level,
until Mount Hiyori, in Miyagi Prefecture, was confirmed to be the lowest mountain
by the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan in April 2014.

japan national holiday

national holiday in Japan

Yesterday, 12 JAN.2015 was national holiday 『Seijinshiki (Coming-of-Age Day)』.

When a person reaches 20 years of age, they are considered to be an adult in Japan.
Drinking alcohol is permitted and you can enjoy a greater degree of freedom.
On one hand, you become a full citizen and are given the right to vote,
but at the same time, you also have new responsibilities as an adult,
such as having to enroll in a pension plan and other duties.
People celebrate the adulthood of those reaching 20 on what is known as seijinnohi,or coming-of-age day.
This celebration used to be held on January 15th,
but it was changed to the second Monday of January.

Each town and city has its own ceremony.
The “new adults” go back to their hometown to attend the ceremony.
It is a good opportunity for them to see old friends.
Many women wear furisode, colorful, long-sleeved kimono, and have their hair dressed in a formal up-style,
furisode kimono
and some men also wear kimono with hakama.
hakama

Some of the “new adults” take the opportunity to start drinking and messing around at the ceremony, displaying immature behavior.
